Description
Milky way over the De Na Zin wilderness (also known as Bisti Badlands) in New mexico.
The De Na Zin wilderness is a 45,000 acre wilderness located near Farmington, New Mexico. It's also referred to as Bisti Badlands, with the word Bisti derived from Navajo Bistahi, meaning 'among adobe formations'. And indeed, there are unworldly formations called hoodoos throughout the wilderness.
As hard as it is to imagine, once upon a time, this used to be a lush green landscape with rivers flowing through it. Evolution over millions of years uplifted sedimentary fossils and deposits and the hoodoos are what remain of the exposed rock after glaciers eroded their way through them.
This photo was taken on a beautiful October night while we were camping nearby.
