Description
A thunderstorm looms over Joshua Tree National Park in early autumn. Desert thunderstorms are quite magical - there are often rainbows and dark huge clouds and that hard-to-put-into-words post-rain desert smell that gets soaked into everything that's around you. Often, the smell is due to the creosote bush, which is abundant in the Mojave desert.
Joshua trees grow at elevations between 2000-6000 feet. This photo was taken in the western park of the national park - the Mojave desert, which is slightly cooler and moister than the eastern park - the Colorado desert.
