Description
A winter thunderstorm lingers over the road leading to Salt Creek in California's Death Valley National Park.
Salt creek is unique in that it is home to the rare salt creek pupfish, which is not found anywhere else in the world. These little fish (they are less than 3 inches in size) can survive temperatures as low as freezing to as high as 108 degrees. Over the course of thousands of years, they've evolved to survive and thrive in this harsh landscape, which, at one point, used to be part of a lake.
